App link

Fields marked * are required.

How much of the code can be dirty, scratched or covered and still scan. Higher levels add more squares, so the code gets denser. Medium suits most uses; choose High for a logo or rough surfaces.

The blank border scanners need around the code. It never goes below 4 modules (the code’s small squares), as the QR standard asks.

Sharp up to 17 cm (6.8 in) at 300 dpi. SVG scales to any size.

Logo in the center (optional)

PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF or SVG. It stays in your browser and is never uploaded.

How to make a app store QR code

  1. Choose the store

Pick the App Store or Google Play, or another link such as your website’s download page.

  2. Paste the store link

Copy it from the Share button on your app’s store page.

  3. Make the second code

Repeat for the other store, and print the two codes side by side with the store names, or use one dynamic code (see below).

  4. Download it

Download an SVG for print, or a PNG for screens.

  5. Test it

Scan each code with the matching phone (iPhone for the App Store, Android for Google Play).

What an app store QR code contains

A static code holds one link, so it can only send everyone to one store. These are the usual formats:

https://apps.apple.com/app/id1234567890
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.example.app

An iPhone can’t install an app from Google Play and an Android phone can’t install from the App Store, so with static codes you need one per store, clearly labelled.

Tips for printing and scanning

For app store QR codes

  • Label each code with the store’s name, so people scan the right one.
  • Use the store’s official link, not a link that only works on a computer.
  • Test on both an iPhone and an Android phone before printing.

For any printed QR code

  • Size: print the code at least 2 cm (0.8 in) wide for something held in the hand. For signs and posters, make it about a tenth of the scanning distance: roughly 10 cm (4 in) wide to scan from 1 m (3 ft).
  • Contrast: use a dark code on a light background. Light-on-dark codes and pale brand colors fail on some phones.
  • Quiet zone: keep a blank border of at least 4 modules (the code’s small squares) around it. Don’t crop it or put text and graphics right up against the code.
  • File type: use the SVG for print, since it stays sharp at any size. The 2048 px PNG is enough for print up to about 17 cm (6.8 in) wide at 300 dpi.
  • Surface: avoid glare from glossy laminate, tight curves (bottles, cups) and folds that cut through the code.
  • Test: scan a printed proof with an iPhone and an Android phone, at the real distance and in the real lighting, before you print in bulk.

When to use a dynamic code instead

To use a single code for both stores, you need a dynamic code with device routing: it sends iPhones to the App Store, Android phones to Google Play, and everyone else to a link you choose. In CirculateQR, add the Device block to a dynamic code and paste both links. You can also change the links later and see how many people scanned on each kind of phone.

Dynamic codes need a free CirculateQR account. On the free plan a dynamic code stays live for 14 days after you publish it; on a paid plan your codes stay live with no time limit, or you can keep a single code for a one-time $5.

The code you make on this page is static: free, permanent and private, but fixed once printed. Static and dynamic codes compared.

App store QR code questions

Can one QR code open the App Store on iPhone and Google Play on Android?

Not a static code, which holds one link. A dynamic code with device routing can: it checks the phone when someone scans and opens the right store.

Do app store QR codes expire?

The static code made here never expires. It works as long as your app’s store page exists.

Where do I find my app’s store link?

On the store page, tap Share and copy the link. App Store links start with https://apps.apple.com/; Google Play links start with https://play.google.com/store/apps/.

Should I print two codes or one?

Two static codes, labelled “App Store” and “Google Play”, are free and work forever. One dynamic code is simpler for people to scan and lets you see results, but needs a CirculateQR account.

Can I track app downloads from the QR code?

A dynamic code counts scans. Downloads are counted by the stores; App Store Connect and Google Play Console can attribute installs to campaign links.
