Create your vCard QR code
Your QR code appears here as you fill in the form.
Test it with your phone camera before you print or share it: point the camera at the preview and check it does what you expect.
Colors, logo and size
The blank border scanners need around the code. It never goes below 4 modules (the code’s small squares), as the QR standard asks.
Sharp up to 17 cm (6.8 in) at 300 dpi. SVG scales to any size.
Logo in the center (optional)
PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF or SVG. It stays in your browser and is never uploaded.

What a vCard QR code contains
A vCard QR code contains a contact card in vCard 3.0 format, the same format phones use to share contacts. The phone reads it and offers to add a new contact.

- FN and N
- the name as shown, and split into last and first name
- ORG and TITLE
- company and job title
- TEL, EMAIL and URL
- phone number, email address and website
- ADR
- the address, if you add one
Every detail you add makes the code denser. Name, phone, email and website fit comfortably; a full address and a note make a much busier code, so print it larger. Accented letters are stored as UTF-8, which modern phones read correctly.
Tips for printing and scanning
For vCard QR codes
- On a business card, print the code at least 2 cm (0.8 in) wide. A vCard is dense, so 2.5 cm (1 in) is safer.
- Include the country code in phone numbers (+1, +44) so they work for people abroad.
- Leave out details people don’t need to save. A smaller code scans faster.
For any printed QR code
- Size: print the code at least 2 cm (0.8 in) wide for something held in the hand. For signs and posters, make it about a tenth of the scanning distance: roughly 10 cm (4 in) wide to scan from 1 m (3 ft).
- Contrast: use a dark code on a light background. Light-on-dark codes and pale brand colors fail on some phones.
- Quiet zone: keep a blank border of at least 4 modules (the code’s small squares) around it. Don’t crop it or put text and graphics right up against the code.
- File type: use the SVG for print, since it stays sharp at any size. The 2048 px PNG is enough for print up to about 17 cm (6.8 in) wide at 300 dpi.
- Surface: avoid glare from glossy laminate, tight curves (bottles, cups) and folds that cut through the code.
- Test: scan a printed proof with an iPhone and an Android phone, at the real distance and in the real lighting, before you print in bulk.
When to use a dynamic code instead
A static vCard can’t be changed after printing: a new job title or phone number means a new code, and new cards.
CirculateQR’s business card template makes a dynamic code that opens a hosted contact page with a Save contact button, your photo and your social profiles. You can change the details at any time without reprinting, and see how many people scanned your card.
The code you make on this page is static: free, permanent and private, but fixed once printed. Static and dynamic codes compared.
vCard QR code questions
What is a vCard QR code?
A QR code that contains a digital business card in the vCard format. Scanning it opens a contact card on the phone with an option to save it, so nobody has to type your details.
Do vCard QR codes expire?
No. Your details are stored in the code itself, so it works for good. If your details change, you need a new code.
Does a vCard QR code work on iPhone and Android?
Yes. The Camera app on iPhone, and the camera or Google Lens on Android, recognise vCard codes and offer to add the contact.
Can I add a photo to a vCard QR code?
Not to a static code: a photo is far more data than a QR code can hold. A hosted contact page (a dynamic code) can show your photo and still offer a Save contact button.
What should I put on a business card QR code?
Name, mobile number, email, company, job title and website are the most useful. Every extra field makes the code denser, so leave out anything people won’t need.
Can I see who scanned my vCard QR code?
No. A static code is read entirely on the phone, so nobody is notified. A dynamic code counts scans (how many, when and on which kind of device) but doesn’t identify who scanned.
Do names with accents work?
Yes. Names like José Núñez or Zoë Brontë are stored as UTF-8 text, which modern phones read correctly. Scan a test before you print, as always.
