Menu QR Code Generator (Free)
This free menu QR code generator makes a QR code that opens your restaurant’s menu (a web page or a PDF you already have online) when guests scan it at the table.
- No sign-up
- Never expires
- No watermark
- Made in your browser
Create your menu QR code
Your QR code appears here as you fill in the form.
Test it with your phone camera before you print or share it: point the camera at the preview and check it does what you expect.
Colors, logo and size
The blank border scanners need around the code. It never goes below 4 modules (the code’s small squares), as the QR standard asks.
Sharp up to 17 cm (6.8 in) at 300 dpi. SVG scales to any size.
Logo in the center (optional)
PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF or SVG. It stays in your browser and is never uploaded.
How to make a menu QR code
Paste your menu link
Use your menu page, a delivery-app page or a PDF of your menu that anyone with the link can open.
Check the preview
Open “What’s inside this code” and open the link on your phone to check it loads quickly.
Style it
Use your brand colors (dark on light) and add your logo if you like.
Download it
Download an SVG for table tents and stickers, or a PNG for screens.
Test it
Scan a printed proof at a table, in the restaurant’s real lighting.
What a menu QR code contains
A static menu QR code contains the link to your menu and nothing else. Scanning it opens that link in the phone’s browser.
https://example.com/menu
The menu itself lives wherever the link points. If you change the menu at that link (say, upload a new PDF with the same address), the code shows the new version. If the link changes, the printed code breaks.
Tips for printing and scanning
For menu QR codes
- Make the link one you control and won’t rename, such as yourrestaurant.com/menu.
- Phone-friendly beats print-friendly: a PDF made for A3 paper is hard to read on a phone.
- On table tents, print the code at least 3 cm (1.2 in) wide and add a line like “Scan for our menu”.
For any printed QR code
- Size: print the code at least 2 cm (0.8 in) wide for something held in the hand. For signs and posters, make it about a tenth of the scanning distance: roughly 10 cm (4 in) wide to scan from 1 m (3 ft).
- Contrast: use a dark code on a light background. Light-on-dark codes and pale brand colors fail on some phones.
- Quiet zone: keep a blank border of at least 4 modules (the code’s small squares) around it. Don’t crop it or put text and graphics right up against the code.
- File type: use the SVG for print, since it stays sharp at any size. The 2048 px PNG is enough for print up to about 17 cm (6.8 in) wide at 300 dpi.
- Surface: avoid glare from glossy laminate, tight curves (bottles, cups) and folds that cut through the code.
- Test: scan a printed proof with an iPhone and an Android phone, at the real distance and in the real lighting, before you print in bulk.
When to use a dynamic code instead
Use a dynamic code if your menu link might change, if you want to know how many tables scan, or if you serve different menus at breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Dynamic codes need a free CirculateQR account. On the free plan a dynamic code stays live for 14 days after you publish it; on a paid plan your codes stay live with no time limit, or you can keep a single code for a one-time $5.
The code you make on this page is static: free, permanent and private, but fixed once printed. Static and dynamic codes compared.
Menu QR code questions
Do menu QR codes expire?
A static menu code made here never expires: it holds your link directly. It keeps working as long as the page or PDF at that link is online.
Can I update my menu without reprinting the QR code?
Yes, if the link stays the same: replace the menu at that address (for example upload a new PDF with the same link) and the code shows the new version. To change where the code points, you need a dynamic code.
Can I make a QR code for a PDF menu?
Yes. Upload the PDF to your website or a file-sharing service, make sure anyone with the link can open it, then paste the link here. For a menu that’s easier to read on phones, build a hosted menu in CirculateQR.
How big should a menu QR code be on a table?
At least 3 cm (1.2 in) wide for a table tent read from a seat. For a window or wall poster read from a few metres away, make it 20 cm (8 in) or more.
Can I see how many people scanned my menu?
Not with a static code. A dynamic CirculateQR code counts scans, and shows when and on which kind of device people scanned.
Do guests need an app to scan the menu?
No. The camera on iPhone and on most Android phones reads QR codes and opens the menu in the browser.
