QR code analytics: when, where and on what device

Every scan of a dynamic CirculateQR code is logged with the time, device type, operating system, browser, phone language, approximate location (country, region and city from the IP address), referrer and campaign tags. Bot scans, such as link previews in chat apps, are flagged and left out of your numbers.

The analytics dashboard turns that into total and unique scans, trends over time, a scan map, device and language breakdowns, a code leaderboard and UTM campaign reports. You can export scans as CSV on every plan; how far back you can look depends on your plan.

How it works

From scan to report

  1. Publish a dynamic code

Tracking is on by default for codes made in Studio.
  2. Each scan is logged

Before the person is redirected. IP addresses are stored only as a salted hash, never in full.
  3. Read the dashboard

Overview, audience, codes, geography, sources and the scan feed, or a single code’s page with its totals, last 24 hours, seven-day chart and recent scans.
  4. Export or ask

Download scans as CSV, or on Studio and up, generate an AI insight report.

What the dashboard shows

Total and unique scans

Unique scans count different visitors, identified by a hashed IP address.

Time patterns

Scans over time, an hour-by-weekday heatmap, and comparison with the previous period.

Places

Countries, regions, cities and a scan map. Locations are approximate, from the IP address.

Devices and languages

Device type, operating system, browser and phone language.

Sources and campaigns

Referrers and UTM campaigns, including the tags you add to a code’s link.

Code leaderboard

See which codes get scanned most and compare them side by side.

Bot filtering

Link previews and crawlers are flagged and excluded from charts and exports.

CSV export

Download up to 100,000 scans at a time on every plan.

AI insight reports

On Studio and up: a written summary of your scan data with findings and suggested experiments, plus follow-up questions.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What can QR code analytics tell me?

How many times each code was scanned and by how many different people, when, on what devices and in which languages, roughly where (country, region and city), where the visit came from, and which routing rule sent each scan.

Can I see who scanned my QR code?

No. Analytics don’t identify people: there are no names or contact details, and IP addresses are stored only as a hash. To collect contact details, point the code at a form or turn on the email gate.

What counts as a unique scan?

Unique scans count different visitors, identified by a hashed IP address. Several people on the same office or café network can count as one visitor.

Are bot scans counted?

No. Link previews from chat apps and other bots are flagged and left out of charts and exports.

How far back can I see scans?

Seven days on the free plan, 90 days on Studio, a year on Artisan and all of your history on Stealth.

Can I send scans to Google Analytics?

Yes. Add UTM tags to a code so Google Analytics sees where the visit came from. Scan events can also be forwarded to GA4, Meta and TikTok from our servers, on every plan (2 pixel setups on the free plan, up to 50 on Stealth).
